What do you think makes eloping in Colorado so special?

Colorado has so many different landscapes and climates! You can either have a winter wonderland elopement or a warm summer evening elopement in a park in Boulder! Whatever you choose, you can’t go wrong by having your magical day in this magical state!

Tell us about one of your most magical elopements in Colorado!

I live for the sunrise and sunset ceremonies. One that sticks out is one chilly morning in 2019. You could see your breath and it was so isolated that we could all hear the individual crunch of footsteps in the snow. We had a lovely ceremony and then the bride and groom just took a few minutes during their vows to walk down the lake and just sit calmly while looking out to the water. Their love is so tangible and it was such an honor to be part of their special day.

What do you think makes eloping in Colorado so special?

Colorado is a truly heaven on earth. The mountains are so breathtaking, the trails are rugged and intimate and the state as a whole is warm and inviting. Even in the thick of a winter storm, you will always be welcomed with open arms and greeted with a warm cup of coffee. You can’t beat it! !

What’s your favorite elopement venue in Colorado?

I would say either Lost Gulch Lookout for sunset and Garden of the Gods for sunrise!

What’s a fun fact about you?

I’ve jumped out of a perfectly good airplane.

I have traveled to many of Simply Eloped destinations, and no place has put me more in awe than Colorado. Colorado is so special to me because the landscapes are so grand and various, all changing beautifully throughout the seasons. I truly think Colorado’s aesthetic can suit any couple’s dream location!

What’s a fun fact about you?

I shot my first wedding as a sophomore in high school with a camera that was gifted to me! I haven’t stopped shooting couples since 🙂

Can you get married on the same day in Colorado?

Colorado’s marriage license doesn’t have a waiting period, so you can get married as soon as your license has been issued. Keep in mind, once you get the license, it needs to be signed within 35 days and filed within 63 days. There are late fees for processing after the 63-day deadline!

Why should I get married in Colorado Springs?

Colorado Springs is a gateway to some of the state’s most stunning natural wonders and it’s easy to get to! Some major airlines fly directly into the Colorado Springs Airport and the Denver International Airport is a little over an hour’s drive away.

Colorado Springs enjoys a prime location at the foot of the Rockies and is a great base for visitors who want to explore the area’s unique geological formations like the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, the Paint Mines, the Cave Of The Winds Mountain, and The Broadmoor Seven Falls.

What is required to get married in Colorado?

Colorado makes it easy to get married — no witnesses nor a blood test are required. And there is no need to be a Colorado resident to get married here. Both parties wishing to marry must bring $30 and one form of identification to any county clerk’s office in the state to begin the application process. The license is valid as soon as it is issued and must be used, in Colorado, within 35 days.

What is the best time of year to elope in Colorado Springs?

In Colorado Springs, summers are warm and the winters are very cold. It is typically partly cloudy with low humidity all year. The city is at its best from March through May as well as September and October, when average temperatures are just right and the crowds have thinned. An added bonus, September and October are great for enjoying the area’s fall foliage before the first snowfall. It is rare to see snow in September, but not unheard of. The same can be said for the month of May.

The summer months are Colorado Springs’ peak tourist season. Mornings and evenings are generally mild, but the middle of the day can get pretty hot, and afternoon thundershowers are a possibility.

The town sees an uptick in visitors a few times a year when they play host to local festivals. If you would prefer to avoid the festivities and any possible competition for accommodations, you might want to choose an elopement date that doesn’t overlap with the Rocky Mountain Women’s Film Festival in November or the Labor Day Lift Off. However, Labor Day Lift Off is a hot air balloon festival, and watching the launches from your B&B or elopement site could be a memorable addition to your special day.

What is the best time of day to elope in Colorado Springs?

As a general rule, sunset and the hour or so after are the best time of day for an elopement, as the sun isn’t too strong and directly overhead. The sunset hours give a warm glow to elopement photographs that is hard to beat unless you’re willing to wake up to catch the sunrise. That being said, if you are eloping at the Paint Mines in Calhan about 45 minutes northeast, the light changes in exciting ways throughout the day. Working with your local photographer will give you a good idea of what to expect and what times of day will give you the best outcome for your elopement and photoshoot.
