Good to Know Before You Elope Here

Getting around Marquette can take a bit longer than expected, especially in summer when the downtown area fills with visitors, cyclists, and beachgoers. Even if Google says it’s a quick drive, we recommend leaving at least 20–30 minutes earlier than you think you’ll need. Parking near Lower Harbor Park can fill up quickly on sunny days, so plan to arrive early to secure a spot. Travel light! You don’t want purses, backpacks, or other clutter in your photos. The less you carry, the more comfortable and natural you’ll feel as you explore downtown or stroll the waterfront for portraits. If it rains, there’s no covered shelter downtown, but you can wait out a short shower under the trees in Lower Harbor Park or duck into a nearby café until the skies clear. Rainy photos downtown can be beautiful and romantic, so don’t stress if the weather shifts. If you’re wearing heels, bring a pair of comfortable shoes for walking between spots — it makes it easier to move around town for photos. Speaking of tips, they’re always appreciated for your vendor team! $30 per person is customary and goes a long way toward thanking your photographer, officiant, and coordinator for their care and effort. Finally, remember to pause and take it all in. Whether you’re standing by the lake or surrounded by Marquette’s cozy downtown charm, this is your moment — breathe, relax, and enjoy every second.
