The Best Places to Elope 2026: Pack Your Bags

Let’s start with the obvious. You deserve a wedding day that feels like you… not a  marathon of logistics.

Think jaw-dropping scenery, a ceremony made for you, and zero pressure to perform for 150-plus people you barely know. That is the magic of eloping. It is simpler. It’s more intentional. And it’s often way easier on your budget.

And the venues? Forget about walls. You can elope in Arizona, Oregon, Washington, Nashville, Texas, Hawaii, or Florida. Red rocks, forests, beaches, mountaintops, city skylines. If it feels like a good place to say yes, then it probably is.

Why Elope?

Not everyone dreams about chair covers. And we think that’s pretty normal.

Eloping is growing fast because it offers a modern wedding experience without the usual overwhelm. It is simple, meaningful, and designed around what you want. Here are some of our favorite perks of eloping:

Stress-free: You trade months of planning for something refreshingly easy.
Affordable: With the average US wedding costing around $33,000 and rising to $47,000 in some states, eloping is a smarter financial move. Shameless plug. We specialize in affordable, stress-free elopement planning.
Personalized: No bloated guest lists, no cookie-cutter timelines, no pressure to perform.

One of the only big decisions left is where to go. Below, we are sharing our top twelve picks for the Best Places to Elope in 2026.

12. Las Vegas, Nevada

If you are eloping, let’s not pretend you didn’t already think about Vegas. And for good reason. It is one of the easiest places in the country to get a marriage license. Plus, you get world-class food, shows, and plenty to do before and after you say your vows.

At Simply Eloped, we tend to wander off the Strip. We specialize in desert elopements that trade neon lights for open skies. From Valley of Fire State Park to private favorites like Nelson Ghost Town, we coordinate ceremonies of all sizes in places that feel anything but basic.

11. Asheville, North Carolina

Asheville is stacked with nature. You are surrounded by the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Chimney Rock State Park, Mount Mitchell State Park, and plenty of other scenic heavy hitters. It is a dream location if you want your ceremony to come with views, fresh air, and zilch ballroom carpeting.

To make things even better, Simply Eloped holds commercial permits at most of the surrounding parks, making us an easy partner for your Asheville elopement. If you are collecting destination wedding ideas, Asheville earns its place near the top.

10. St. Augustine, Florida

Not all Florida looks the same, and St. Augustine is proof. This historic beach town blends Spanish roots with beachside beguilement, creating more of an old-world vibe than spring break shenanigans. Think unique architecture, walkable streets, green parks, and miles of shoreline.

Because the vibe here is so distinct, your elopement options are wide open. From Washington Oaks Gardens State Park to St. Johns County Beaches, we coordinate venues of all types for your St. Augustine wedding day.

9. Stanley, Idaho (Sawtooth Mountain Range, part of the Rockies)

Idaho deserves a rebrand. Beyond tubular tubers, you will find Stanley, a mountain town surrounded by the Sawtooth Range, part of the Rockies, and easily one of the most beautiful landscapes in the state. People love calling it the “Swiss Alps of Idaho.” Once you see it, you will get it. And maybe, just maybe, you’ll add an alphorn to your wedding ceremony.

Getting there usually means flying into Boise or Sun Valley and driving the rest of the way. Consider it a scenic appetizer. Eloping in Stanley is worth every mile.

8. Big Sur, California

Let’s talk about places that feel like a screensaver. Big Sur qualifies. Highway 1 curves along the coast with nonstop ocean views, gigantic redwoods, and landscapes you cannot really fake. There are few places where forest and sea collide this hard, and it makes for wildly good elopement backdrops.

Permits are required for most beaches here, and luckily, we have commercial permits for many of them. Translation. Less paperwork for you, more time planning the good part.

7. Yosemite, California

If your ideal wedding venue includes granite walls and wide-open sky, Yosemite is serving top-model energy. A location that could win a smize-off with Ms. Banks herself. From grand cliffs to sweeping meadows and waterfalls, the scenery here sets the bar high. Many Yosemite elopement locations involve a hike, which makes this spot especially appealing for couples who like to earn their views. The payoff is big, and the scenery delivers every time.

Planning here comes with its whims, including the fact that no vendors live in the park. Simply Eloped works with vendors who regularly serve Yosemite and gets the rules, timing, and terrain.

6. New Orleans, Louisiana

New Orleans is for couples who don’t need their elopement to behave… and wouldn’t want it to. Powdered sugar on your fingers, brass music drifting through the streets, and a go-cup in hand because the city insists you enjoy yourself. From the entrance to Jackson Square to the Tree of Life at Audubon Park, elopement locations bring boo-coo personality and zero pressure to be anything but real. Everything’s close, there’s boo-coo energy, and laissez les bon temps rouler is in the air.

5. New York City, New York

Think New York City is all chaos, crowds, and cabs? Think again. This city may be massive, but it’s surprisingly perfect for small ceremonies. Venues like A Tree House for Dreaming in Central Park elopements feel like a movie scene, boutique hotel weddings have an intimate charm, and even tiny Top of the Rock ceremonies hit legendary status. The city practically begs you to celebrate in your own way. Want to grab a slice and wander the streets? Go for it. Broadway show after your vows? Break a leg. Catch a Yankees or Mets game? Batter up. NYC has something for every kind of celebration… even if your only guest is your pooch.

A word of advice: timing and budget are everything. Hotel rates swing wildly depending on events, holidays, and random conventions. But plan smart, and New York City elopements deliver magic no matter the season.

4. Hawai’i

You might want to add these Hawaiian venues to your moodboards. Picture vows beside an active volcano on the Big Island or on a completely secluded Maui beach. Every island has its own personality, which also makes choosing one the hardest decision of your wedding planning. We’re sorry in advance.

The best part? Your adventure doesn’t stop once the ceremony ends. Whale watching, scuba diving, swimming with dolphins or manta rays—Hawaii basically turns your elopement into a full-on experience. Food options are endless, too, from upscale dining to local favorites.

One caveat: Hawaii does marriage licenses differently from mainland states. They can be tricky, but we’ve got you. Reach out for support, or check in with your vendors so you know your ceremony will be official and more importantly legal.

3. Lake Tahoe (Nevada / California border)

Ring. Ring. It’s Tahoe. Pick up your phone. Straddling Nevada and northern California, this gem delivers everything: turquoise lakes, mountain skylines, private forest clearings, and cedars that have been around long before your great-great-grandparents. Beachside vows, forest intimacy, mountain vistas—it’s all here. We have plenty of secluded, breathtaking spots for your Lake Tahoe elopement.

Seasons? Who cares? Lake Tahoe is magical alllll year-round, and we have venues for all kinds of group sizes, from intimate elopements to slightly bigger squads.

One practical tip: Lake Tahoe sprawls between two states. That means knowing which side your venue is on before applying for a marriage license is the key. Don’t worry, though. We’ve got you covered.

2. Rocky Mountain National Park, Estes Park, Colorado

If you have ever wondered what it feels like to step directly into a storybook, Colorado is ready to demonstrate. Think 150 lakes, 350 miles of trails, and 450 miles of flowing rivers and streams. And if woodland creatures insist on helping you on your big day, do not panic. This is normal here, Snow White.

Eloping here is about giving nature full creative control. The park offers everything from open meadows to high elevation overlooks, plus winter weddings framed by snow-covered peaks. There is no wrong vibe, just different ones.

Pro tip: The park only issues 6 permits a day, and they sell like hotcakes. Plus, insurance is required. That’s where Simply Eloped makes life easier. We handle the logistics, so you can just get married. Check out locations like 3M Curve, Sprague Lake, and Hidden Valley in our Colorado elopement packages.

1. Gatlinburg, Tennessee

If Gatlinburg, Tennessee, isn’t on your radar yet, where the heck have you been?

It’s tucked right next to Great Smoky Mountains National Park, which means incredible mountain views, multiple park entrances, and plenty of wildlife sightings to make your ceremony feel one-of-a-kind. Imagine saying your vows with an elk quietly observing—or a black bear far in the distance—adding that “wow” or “eeeekkkk” factor naturally.

The town itself has plenty to offer, too. Pigeon Forge is packed with attractions, parks, and experiences to make your elopement weekend anything but ordinary.

Permits and insurance can be a bit tricky in the National Park, but we’ve got you covered. We’ll get you a tucked-away private spot or a ceremony on park grounds. Obviously, your choice. Still don’t know which venue feels right? Check out our Venue Finder to  help you find your ideal spot.
