What do you do if it rains on your wedding day? Samantha and Matthew give us the answer – grab the one you love, and dance in the downpour! Stealing away into the clouds atop the beautiful mountains of Asheville, this gorgeous couple created a romantic, private ceremony. They show us just how easy it is to find the silver lining when you are standing side-by-side with your best friend. Read on to discover how they turned their North Carolina elopement into a beautiful, whirlwind adventure!

How did you meet? What was your first impression of one another?

Sam: We went to high school together for 2 years. We were both in separate relationships and had never spoken to each other, but for some reason we always made eye contact in the halls. Eventually I moved away and years later, when both of us were single, Matt messaged me on Facebook confessing that he had always had a crush on me and told me how beautiful he thought I was. We went on our first date a week later.  My first impression of Matt was that he was incredibly handsome and I had this feeling that I can’t quite explain. It was like my soul knew, way before my heart did, that I had just met my other half.

Matt: We went to school together!

When did you first fall in love? How did you know?

Sam: I fell in love with him without actually realizing it. It happened so quickly and effortlessly. One day I just realized that he was everything I had ever wanted and needed.

Matt: When I didn’t want to spend even a second away from her.

How did you propose or accept the proposal?

We are huge jokesters and we are always playing pranks on one another. About a month before Christmas 2018, he started leaving me little hints about what my present was going to be. He left the Pandora website open on his phone, he made sure I saw him walk into a Pandora shop and look at the bracelets… just little things like that. So, I assumed I was getting a Pandora bracelet. Christmas morning came and he walks out with a long, slender box; like the kind that bracelets come in. I start to open it and he bends down in front of me to “help me open it.” Inside was a ring taped to the inside of an old Apple Watch box. A soon as I opened it, he asked the question and obviously I said “yes.”

Let’s plan your stress-free elopement. Start today!

What do you love about your partner?

Sam: I love his soul, his gentleness, and the way he calms me. He is so patient and selfless. He is my safe place and I just love the way he makes me feel.

Matt: Her beauty and how much of a great wife and mother she is.

What is the greatest strength of your relationship?

Sam: I think our greatest strength is that we are truly best friends. He is my favorite person on the planet and he is the person I always run to for everything.

Matt: Our love.

Why did you decide to elope?

We decided to elope because we wanted to spend our fairytale day in private. No fuss, no stress, no people-pleasing. Just the two of us and our love.

How did you find Simply Eloped?

We found Simply Eloped by doing a lot of research on eloping.

How did you know Simply Eloped was the right fit for you?

We knew Simply Eloped was the right fit for us by how reassuring they were on their website, their amazing reviews, and their awesome, quick, and informative responses to all of my many, many emails and questions.

What attracted you to a North Carolina elopement?

When we decided we wanted to elope, we knew we didn’t want a normal elopement. We wanted something special and unique. As people who live literally minutes from the ocean, we thought getting married on a mountain was perfect. Wiseman’s View is something truly magical and it really was the perfect spot for us.

What activities did you do before the wedding? How did you prepare? How did you feel leading up to the moments of your elopement?

We booked an AirBnb for our wedding weekend that was literally above the clouds on a mountain side. We spent the day before just enjoying each other’s company and enjoying ourselves at the AirBnb. The feelings leading up to our elopement were a mixture to say the least. It wound up pouring rain during our entire ride there, so we were a little stressed but overall so excited. We both knew that no matter what happened, we just wanted to finally be married.

Tell us about your experience with Simply Eloped leading up to and on your big day!

Our experience with Simply Eloped leading up to our big day was amazing! They were always willing to answer all of my hundreds of questions, they dealt so well with rescheduling, and they always seemed happy to speak with me and never made me feel like a bother. OUR TEAM! Let me just say that I will never be able to express how much our officiant and photographer meant to us. It literally DOWN POURED the entire time we were out there. There was not a single dry moment the whole time! They were legit troopers and they made sure we were married by the time we left and had the best pictures to prove it.

How did you celebrate after?

To celebrate afterwards, we went out to dinner still in our dress and suit to the Biltmore Estate. It was the most spectacular dinner and everyone was ooooing and aaahhhing as we walked in. After that, we went back to the AirBnb and had our first dance since we couldn’t do that on the mountain with all the rain. It was still super cloudy, and because the AirBnb was at such a high elevation, we literally had our first dance in a cloud! It was amazing!

What words of encouragement do you have for those considering eloping?

DO IT! Elopements are so underrated. I always dreamed of a huge wedding but I can honestly say that eloping was the second best decision I have ever made, aside from deciding to marry my best friend.
