You may think that a vow renewal is just for those who have been together for many, many years and are looking to re-up on their vows, but you’d be wrong! Through our years at Simply Eloped, we’ve found that couples renew their vows for various reasons. There are so many wonderful reasons to reaffirm your love for your honey, from incorporating the kids into the ceremony or re-commit to one another after a hardship (*cough* *cough* global pandemic).

What Is a Vow Renewal?

Before we proceed to the vow renewal ideas from our lovely couples, let’s define first what a vow renewal is. This is usually a celebration done on anniversaries such as 10, 35, or 50 years of being together. However, there are no actual written rules when to have one. You can have it anytime you feel like having a celebratory ceremony to reaffirm your love for one another. With so many creative vow renewal ideas nowadays, you’ll find yourself wanting to do it right away!

How to Plan a Vow Renewal Ceremony?

Preparing to renew your vow is like planning a wedding but on a smaller scale and in the most intimate way possible. You don’t have to worry about any legal documents because this is purely ceremonial. Here is a guide for you:

  • Choose among the unique vow renewal ideas you have in mind so that you already have a vision of how your ceremony will look like.
  • Finalize the date of your vow renewal ceremony and send out invitations (if any).
  • Find someone to officiate your vow renewal.
  • Pick out your outfit (it doesn’t need to be a wedding dress or suit). Hint: you can refer to what our lovely couples are wearing on their renewal day.

Here are eleven couples who renewed their vows with Simply Eloped and why they thought it was important to them.

He redeemed himself by proposing again in front of the Eiffel tower on their tenth anniversary and doing a vow renewal the next day in Paris. After that, he thought it would be fun to do something like that every five years. He proposed again in New York City, followed by a short ceremony with a few friends.

Thomas & Natasha

Apparently, surprise vow renewals are a popular concept! Thomas loves to celebrate that he ‘already has the most beautiful woman on the planet’ and wants to celebrate it as often as possible. These two hopped over from Amsterdam for a private and heart-melting surprise vow renewal ceremony. She was delighted and surprised, to say the least.

It was evident to see how much these two love each other to anyone who witnessed. They want all out on their package – officiant, photographer, flowers, and hair & makeup. Indeed a beautiful vow renewal ceremony.
